On March 5th 2024 the Regional Development Agency for Podravje – Maribor and other stakeholders gave a detailed presentation of the activities already underway along the Pekrski creek, as well as those planned for the future, to representatives of the districts and local communities bordering the wider Pekrski creek area. The event was held in the local community center and lots of interested individuals have gathered highly anticipated information about the Upsurge activities.
RDAPM is planning to improve and beautify the green areas along the Pekrski creek using sustainable solutions in the framework of the UPSURGE project. This will allow residents to spend active and quality leisure time in nature, and new planting is planned. The preparatory construction work and the planting will start in a few days. 45 tree-lined, 12 native and 12 park trees will be planted, which will help to bind fine dust particles and improve the air, which are the main objectives of the project.
Residents will be able to observe the practical demonstration of the positive effects on air quality in the urban environment at sensor measuring stations, and the project will also include educational workshops where residents will learn about sustainable solutions.
